Facts and Forecast
"If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, humans would have 4 years of life left: no more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more humans."
- Albert Einstein

Statistics:
-More than 40% of insect species are declining and 1/3 are endangered.
- The rate of extinction in insects is eight times faster than that of mammals, birds and reptiles.
- The total mass of insects is falling by a precipitous 2.5% each year, suggesting they could vanish within a century.
-Butterflies and moths are among the worst hit. For example, the number of widespread butterfly species fell by 58% on farmed land between 2000 and 2009.
-The Guardian

Forecast
"Nearly half of insect species have seen steep declines in the past decade. 40% of the world's insect species are now threatened with extinction."
- Entomologist Jason Daley, the Smithsonian

"I do not like bugs; creepy, many-legged things make my skin crawl, but, as unpleasant as they are, insects are absolutely crucial for our world's ecosystems to function, and, sadly, the creatures' populations are on the verge of collapse."
- Biologist Dharna Noor in "Earther, I don't Like Bugs"

We've Invented an Artform!

We guide insects - our cocreators - to EAT parts of large leaves and avoid other parts, in a process that sees ordinary leaves transformed into meaningful works of Art.

Insects are not harmed in making this art.

"Without bugs, we might all be dead." - National Geographic

Insect Talent raises awareness of the existential threat to humanity posed by the unsustainable decline in insect populations due to deforestation, insecticide abuse, air and light pollution, and other human activity.

Insects are a food source for diverse species, pollinate plants, keep the soil healthy, control pests, and recycle nutrients. Without insects, many of the world’s ecosystems would collapse. Our survival as a species depends on insects.

Insect Tale is committed to raising awareness of the issue, and to be part of the solution through education, activism, and art.

Insect Talent, its artworks, and the processes used to produce them, are protected by the US Patent and Trademark Office #63/257,059.
